Mr. Deepak Ashwani a researcher of
Environmental Management from
Aalborg University, Denmark gave an
inspiring lecture to the Students of
HDF SOM on social entrepreneurship.
He is very much passionate to begin
a social entrepreneurship in India
to serve the people suffering from
indoor air pollution due to
cook-stoves. He had worked for
social development in academic and
professional projects (specifically
in Rwanda and Zambia) related to
cooking fuel pellets, gasifying
cook-stoves and biochar produced
from stoves which is used as soil
amendment. He is desirous of
carrying his project experience to
work for social innovation where
behavioral economics and business
strategy development can benefit to
generate sustainable economy for the
society while taking care of the
environment. He is selected as a
Starting Bloc Social Innovation
Fellow in Los Angeles which he will
be attending in February, 2012. He
shared his experience in the sectors
like Pellets Cooking Fuel, Poverty
Alleviation, Social Business and
Gasifying Stoves. |

In her address to the students of
HDF School of Management on the
occasion of National Youth Day, she
encouraged them to dream and pursue
social entrepreneurship with full
vigour. She opined that, one is
bound to face hurdles in realizing
the dream, but, having intense
patience, right attitude, high
integrity and careful financial
planning; success will ultimately
come. According to her, money is
undoubtedly important, but more
important is the strong perseverance
to follow the dream. |

Child Sex Ratio in Odisha: Trends,
Causes and Challenges on 7th January
2012
The much awaited provisional results
of Census 2011 of India has brought
the debate of declining sex ratio,
particularly Child Sex Ratio (CSR)
centre stage. While the CSR of all
India is 914, in Odisha it is 934,
which is a fall of 19 points when
compared with the 2001 Census. What
is alarming is the fact that some of
the tribal districts of the state
have also shown a decline in CSR in
